Hacking of Facebook Accounts
With almost 2.41 billion monthly active users, as of the second quarter of 2019, there is bound to be a copious amount of cases of users being hacked; Unfortunately, it is a risk when using social media, especially a platform as actively used as Facebook. If you have been hacked or you know of a friend who has been hacked, you might want to read the following, to help guide you through recovering a hacked account.

Indications that your account has been breached:
-Unsolicited posts – Shared links from your account, promoting products, websites or any other spam that was not written or shared by you are seen commented on friends’ posts, in chat messengers or on your wall.
-Your personal information has been changed – i.e. your name, your email address, your phone number, your birthday etc.
-Your password has been changed
-Friend requests have been sent to people you don’t know
-Unsolicited In-game purchases on Facebook Apps
If the above rings true, then your account has regrettably been hacked, however, there is hope. Facebook over the years have developed and improved recovery systems that guide you through recovery procedures, making it as painless as possible to recover and further secure your account after the breach, But where do you start?
-The First step you’ll want to take is to immediately change your password. For that you go to Settings > Security and Login > Login> Change Password.
-After changing the password you’ll want to remove any foreign device that shows it is still currently logged in on your account on their device. To do that scroll up on the Security and Login page and see “Where you’re logged in.” In this panel, you’ll want to log out of any device you don’t recognize.
This should be enough to solve most cases of hacking, but if you are unfortunate enough to have the actual password on the account changed; Here are steps to navigate the situation:
If you are unable to physically access the account to change these details, you’ll have to do the following:
-On the Login page there will be an option to click “Forgot Password”
-From here it will give you multiple options of recovery to choose from, the main options being to recover via your email or via your phone number.
-Depending on which option you choose, you will be sent a recovery code on either your email or your phone.
-Using this code, you will be allowed access to your account follow the steps above to change your password and log out of any foreign devices.
Rectifying unsolicited purchases on your Facebook account
